Art+_News Most Influential Koreans in the Art World This Year: ArtReview ‘2024 Power 100’
On the 5th, the renowned British art magazine ArtReview unveiled its ‘2024 Power 100’ list. Since 2002, the annual ‘Power 100’ has involved experts from around the globe in an in-depth and comprehensive evaluation to select 100 individuals who have made significant contributions to the global art and cultural scene through their activities and influence.

Artist_Global K-Art Stephen Friedman Gallery Represents Korean Artist Yooyun Yang
The Stephen Friedman Gallery in the UK now represents Korean artist Yooyun Yang (b. 1985, Korea), who is based in Korea. The artist creates paintings by layering diluted acrylic on traditional Korean paper (hanji) to control the intensity of colors. Yang’s works, featuring photographic-like compositions and repetitive motifs such as blinds, curtains, and railings, transcend reality and imagination. Her solo exhibition was held at the Stephen Friedman Gallery from June 1 to July 22, 2023.

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art (NMAA) will present Do Ho Suh’s installation work Public Figures, on view for 5 years beginning April 27 at the museum’s Freer Plaza, facing the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Many Korean artists are being introduced to the global art scene. Emerging contemporary artists Julia Jo (b. 1991) and GaHee Park (b. 1985) were recently introduced in Ocula and ARTnews, respectively. The works of Choi Wook-kyung (1940-1985) and Jung Kangja (1942-2017), whose works had a significant influence on the modern and contemporary Korean art world, will be presented in group exhibitions at the Whitechapel Gallery in the UK.

Museum_Global K-Art What It Means to Have A Curatorship for Korean Art at The Met
The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), one of the world’s top five museums, has established a dedicated curator position for Korean art. Supported by the Korea Foundation (KF) and the Samsung Cultural Foundation, this marks its first permanent role for a Korean art curator at an overseas art institution. Eleanor Soo-ah Hyun, also known as Hyun Soo-ah in Korea, has been appointed as the first Korean art curator at The Met.
