The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (MCST), together with the Korea Arts Management Service (KAMS), will host the Korean media art exhibition “Decoding Korea (La Corée Decodée)” at the Grand Palais Immersif in Paris from July 26 to August 25 during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“Decoding Korea” decodes the characteristics of Korea expressed through Korean art as ‘media art’, paying particular attention to the complexity and multifaceted nature of Korean society, which has undergone radical changes due to industrialization. The exhibition introduces 18 works by 11 Korean media artists, including Nam June Paik, one of the pioneers of media art, as well as LEE Lee-nam, PARK Junebum, LEE Yongbaek, KWON Hayoun, KIM Heecheon, RAM HAN, ROOMTONE, KANG Yiyun, JUNG Yeondoo, and YEOM Ji Hye.
The exhibition will consist of works that explore contemporary Korean society in its social, historical and cultural context, as well as a special exhibition on Nam June Paik. It is expected to convey the importance of diversity and international solidarity through art to people from all over the world who visit Paris during the Paris 2024 Olympics and provide an opportunity to understand Korea in three dimensions.
The exhibition is part of the ‘2024 Korea Season’ (www.koreaseason.co.kr) program, which will introduce Korean culture to the world in Paris and across France for six months from May 2 to celebrate the Paris 2024 Olympics.
