On October 21, the Leeum Museum of Art
opened the ‘Leeum Archive’ service, a collection of previously unreleased
materials related to modern and contemporary Korean art.
This archive comprises approximately
85,000 records, including documents collected from the Archives of Korean Art,
established by the Samsung Foundation in 1999 as Korea's first art-focused
archive. It also features donated materials from over 160 modern and
contemporary artists. Additionally, the archive contains exhibition records
from various art spaces operated by the Samsung Foundation, such as Leeum/Hoam
Museum of Art, Hoam Gallery, Rodin Gallery, and PLATEAU.
In the ‘Art Archive’ section of the ‘Leeum
Archive’, visitors can access valuable art historical materials, including the
original edition of Korea's first art magazine, 美術 (Art),
donated by Korea’s first-generation art journalist and critic Lee Guyeol
(1932-2020). Additionally, the archive includes oral history records featuring
interviews with over 100 key modern and contemporary artists conducted between
1998 and 2007.
The ‘Museum Archive’ section provides
insights into the historical exhibitions, programs, event posters, and
photographs associated with the various museums operated by the Samsung
Foundation.

The Leeum Museum of Art has
established a management system for the ‘Leeum Archive,’ where it has spent
over a year categorizing, organizing, and digitizing its collection materials.
This archive will serve as a research platform to explore the development and
significance of Korean art history, offering an integrated online search service
for its holdings.
You can access the materials in the ‘Leeum
Archive’ through this link(https://www.leeumhoam.org/leeum/edu/archive).
Additionally, visitors can apply for reservations on the museum's website to
view the actual materials at the Leeum Museum every Friday.
