Artist Lee Wan’s solo exhibition, “Random
Access Memory 3: Records and Memories,” is being held at the House of Woonkyung
until October 27.
Since being selected as the artist for the
Korean Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale, Lee Wan has gained international
recognition. From 2022, he has been presenting the exhibition series “Random
Access Memory,” which delves into the relationship between technology, art, and
humanity. The exhibition at the House of Woonkyung marks the third and final
chapter of this series.
“Random Access Memory 3: Records and
Memories” focuses on the interplay between objective historical records and
personal subjective memories, as well as the transformation of art, humanity,
and life brought about by the infinite accumulation of data. This exhibition
features 26 works that encompass Lee Wan’s artistic world, including the new
piece Bookshelf of Records and Memories (2024), created
based on the history of the House of Woonkyung; the Bird
(2024) series, sculptures that depict birds as timeless mediators; and the
video work Current Affairs Talk Show - Good Questions
(2024), which features a dialogue with AI. The exhibition also includes various
collaborative works, such as soundscapes and dance and music performances.
A variety of programs will be offered in
conjunction with the exhibition. The opening performance, With the
Body, is a collaboration between choreographer Lee Jaeyun and
recording artist Kim Youngsun, offering a unique experience of connecting to
the historical space through music and performance. Other events include an artist
talk, a lecture by Professor Shin Heekweon titled Gwanghwamun Woldae,
a Memory Restored after a Hundred Years, a workshop for the hearing
impaired and their families called How We See the World, and
a music performance Old Sounds, Geomungo and Piano by
pianist Park Jonghwa and geomungo player Heo Yoonjeong.
