CR Collective presents “Bongraesan-FORMOSA Project,” a solo exhibition by NA Hyun, on view through September 28.

NA Hyun has been continuously working on projects that investigate the records of historical events, build archives, and expand the reality of private perspectives. This exhibition takes an anthropological approach, documenting and collecting data on the legendary bulrush of Bongraesan and plants native to Formosa (Taiwan Island) to send a warning message that the current climate crisis is nature's counterattack on humans.

NA lived in Taiwan and has been interested in the history of Formosa and how the indigenous people revere nature and live in balance with it. The artist aims to bring an alternative perspective to the reality that the ecosystem is being destroyed by humans, which paradoxically threatens humans, by borrowing the life of the highlanders and capturing the process and sculptural experiments in the project.

Based in Seoul, NA Hyun (b. 1970) studied painting at Hongik University. NA has held numerous solo exhibitions at various institutions in Korea and abroad, including the Oil Tank Culture Park (Seoul, 2021), Daegu Art Museum (Daegu, 2018), Choi & Lager Gallery (Berlin, 2016), Sungkok Art Museum (Seoul, 2011), and Cite Internationale des Arts (Paris, 2008).

NA has also participated in numerous group exhibitions at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Gwacheon, 2023), Museum SAN (Wonju, 2021), Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (Kaohsiung, 2018), Seoul Museum of Art (Seoul, 2017), and ARKO Art Center (Seoul, 2016). NA Hyun was awarded the Ha Chong-hyun Art Award in 2020, the Today’s Young Artist Award in 2016, and was selected as a sponsored artist for the 2015 MMCA Korea Artist Prize.
