The Busan Museum of Contemporary Art is
presenting the collection exhibition "Busan MoCA Collection_Heaven Baek:
Our Lady Vengeance" in Exhibition Hall 1 until October 20.
"Busan MoCA Collection" is a
newly established permanent exhibition space for the museum's collection as of
2023. This space aims to activate the museum's research functions by focusing
on the in-depth study of its collections, enhancing the gathering and
construction of related materials, and strengthening the linkage of museum
activities through exhibitions and educational program development.
During the 2024 Busan Biennale, the
exhibition features Heaven Baek’s work Our Lady Vengeance,
produced near Busan Jurye Girl’s High School, which was the main filming
location for director Park Chan wook's film Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.
Although many residents recall the filming
of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance
as a major event in the neighborhood, most of them did not accurately remember
the basic facts of the film, and sometimes they even wondered about the
well-being of the main actor.
It shows the concept of a certain reality
by capturing the point where reality becomes fragments in each person's memory,
and fiction in memory overlaps again as a reality that exists in the lives of
residents.
Additionally,
two invited lecture programs linked to the exhibition "Busan MoCA Collection_Heaven Baek:
Our Lady Vengeance" are scheduled on September 21
and October 5. These lectures aim to provide further insights into the themes
explored in Baek’s work, delving deeper into the intersection of memory,
reality, and artistic interpretation as showcased in the exhibition.
