Hastings Contemporary, an art museum located on the coast of the UK, is presenting the works of Yun Hyong-keun (1928–2007), one of the masters of Korean Dansaekhwa painting, from June 1 to October 1, 2023. This is the first time Yun’s solo exhibition has been held in the UK.

Liz Gilmore, the Director of Hastings Contemporary, stated: “Our gallery, Hastings Contemporary, strives to show the very best of modern and contemporary art whilst also being one of the greenest galleries in the UK. The inspirational presence of Yun’s retrospective on the occasion of the 58th edition of the Venice Art Biennale gave momentum to our thinking and planning to bring Yun to Hastings. The exhibition will focus on Yun’s stunning and reflective umber and ultramarine paintings, which make such a fitting juxtaposition with our location between land and sea.”

In celebration of the exhibition, the UK’s Reader’s Digest has published an article introducing seven prominent contemporary Korean artists. In addition to Yun Hyong-keun, the article features artists Ha Chong-Hyun (b. 1935), Hur Hwang (b. 1946), Park Seo-Bo (b. 1931), Lee Dong-Youb (b. 1946), Lee Ufan (b. 1936), and Nam June Paik (1932–2006).
