The second edition of Frieze Seoul will start with a preview on September 6 and run through September 9 with more than 120 galleries from over 30 countries.

The 22nd Kiaf SEOUL will take place from September 6 to 10 with more than 210 galleries from 20 countries.

Frieze Seoul and Kiaf SEOUL, held concurrently, have announced their programs and the list of participating galleries. 

Frieze Seoul is back for its second edition this year, starting with a preview on September 6 and running through September 9. This year, more than 120 galleries from over 30 countries around the world are participating.

The 22nd Kiaf SEOUL, organized by the Galleries Association of Korea, will take place from September 6 to 10, one day longer than Frieze. More than 210 galleries from 20 countries will participate in Kiaf SEOUL.

Like the previous year, both fairs will take place at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul. Frieze Seoul will be held in Halls C and D on the third floor, while Kiaf SEOUL will be held in Halls A and B and the entire first floor, including the Grand Ballroom.

The 2023 Frieze Seoul programs include the main section for contemporary art, Frieze Masters for pre-20th century art, and the Focus Asia section, which showcases solo exhibitions by young galleries that opened after 2011. 

This year, the main section of Frieze Seoul will feature more Asia-based galleries, with 89 major galleries. Korean galleries returning from last year include Gallery Baton, Kukje Gallery, Hakgojae Gallery, Gallery Hyundai, and PKM Gallery, while Gana Art will be participating for the first time.

The Frieze Masters section will be led by Director Nathan Clements-Gillespie, who is returning from last year. Frieze Masters will feature more than 20 galleries, presenting major works from thousands of years of history from a contemporary perspective.

Frieze Seoul 2023 returns with the Focus Asia section, which presents works by ten solo artists from Asia-based galleries that have opened since 2011. This year, Hyejung Jang, Chief Curator at Doosan Gallery, and Joselina Cruz, Director and Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD), De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in Manila, serve as advisors for the section.

Four Korean galleries, namely A-Lounge (Soojung Jung), Cylinder (Sinae Yoo), G Gallery (Woo Hannah), and White Noise (Rondi Park), are participating in Focus Asia. Other participating galleries in the Focus Asia section include Capsule Shanghai (Mevlana Lipp), Lawrie Shabibi (Hamra Abbas), Marco Gallery (Taichi Yoshimura), Nova Contemporary (Prae Pupityastaporn), Yeo Workshop (Priyageetha Dia), and Yutaka Kikutake Gallery (Yuko Mohri).

Kiaf SEOUL will feature the main section, the SOLO section, the PLUS section, and a special exhibition of new media art.

Major Korean galleries participating in the main section include Arario Gallery, BHAK, Gana Art, Gallery Hyundai, Hakgojae Gallery, Johyun Gallery, Keumsan Gallery, Kukje Gallery, Leeahn Gallery, PKM Gallery, PYO Gallery, and Wooson Gallery.

The SOLO section, which showcases solo exhibitions by individual artists, will feature eight international galleries representing South Korea, the United States, Latvia, Belgium, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Participating Korean artists and galleries include Minyoung Kim of Dohing Art, Chung Kyoung Yeon of Gallery Baum, and Jinah Sohn of Seo Gallery.

Other artists and galleries include the art collective Ksusha Lastochka and Maxim Trulov of Lazy Mike (Latvia), Madeleine Bialke of Newchild Gallery (Belgium), Jessie Edelman of Denny Gallery (USA), Peter Chan of Odds and Ends (Hong Kong), and Thomas Devaux of V&E ART (Taiwan).

Kiaf PLUS was first held at SETEC in Seoul last year as a satellite fair. This year, it will be held as one of the sections of Kiaf SEOUL to make it more accessible to visitors. More than 30 young galleries will showcase works by a variety of emerging artists, including NFT and media artists.

Participating local galleries include Gallery STAN, Obscura, Everyday Mooonday, Eligere, and Gallery KUZO, while participating international galleries include SARAHCROWN and Swivel Gallery in the US, biscuit gallery in Japan, Cob in the UK, Yusto/Giner in Spain, and Streams Gallery in Hong Kong.

The New Media Art Special Exhibition introduces 10 Korean media artists. This special exhibition was collaboratively organized by Daechan Heo, editor-in-chief of Aliceon, an online platform focusing on Korean new media art, and media artist Lee Jaehyung, a researcher and curator in the field of technology-based art.
