While South Korea is geographically closer to Southwest Asia than Europe and the United States, many Koreans are unfamiliar with Southwest Asian arts and culture. However, this region, particularly the United Arab Emirates, boasts a rich cultural and artistic scene, with institutions such as the Louvre and the Guggenheim, as well as events such as the Sharjah Biennial. One of the prominent art fairs representing the UAE is Abu Dhabi Art, held annually in November.
Abu Dhabi Art, organized by the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, is celebrating its 15th edition this year. Scheduled to take place from November 22 to 26, 2023, at Manarat Al Saadiyat, this year’s event is anticipated to be the most expansive yet, featuring 92 galleries from 31 countries. Notably, 37 galleries are making their debut at the fair this year. Among the Korean galleries, Hakgojae Gallery, which has participated in previous editions, will also participate.
Dyala Nusseibeh, the Director of Abu Dhabi Art, stated, “This year’s Abu Dhabi Art represents a significant moment in the fair’s history due to its sheer size, with double the number of galleries participating since its early days.”
