Daejeon Museum of Art presents the young artist support exhibition “NEXTCODE 2024: The Record of six promising journeys” until September 29. “NEXTCODE” is an exhibition program that supports artists from Daejeon and Chungcheong Province, and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The exhibition will feature artists Kang Cheolgyu, Kim Donghyeong, Song Jihyun, Yeom Inhwa, Lee Jeongseong, and Jang Dongwook.

Kang Cheolgyu’s works are characterized by a narrative of loss, mourning, and anxiety that all humans can relate to, shifting the subject of memory from the individual to the landscape.

Kim Donghyeong, on the other hand, uses a variety of media from installation to video to deeply explore human existence and social meaning while questioning the social value and function of acts that are often considered inefficient and meaningless.

Jang Dongwook is interested in ambiguous childhood memories and intersecting landscapes. He expresses the ambiguous memories of his childhood and the landscapes that intersect with his ambiguous memories. He uses his distinctive colors and images to depict the life of the city, the things that disappear from it, and the sense of loss and sadness found in the traces of someone’s life. His work is like a record of a lost time, collecting and arranging the memories left behind by the city.

Lee Jeongseong uses painting as a medium to explore society, its structures, and the ambivalent elements and emotions that exist behind them. In particular, Lee considers the way society and art relate, the role of art in social relationships, and creates episodes of contemporary anxieties and cracks.
Yeom Inhwa is an extended reality (XR) researcher and media artist who creates ‘3D performative devices and environments’ by utilizing extended reality (XR) technology that interconnects and operates virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Yeom’s work is characterized by inter-performativity, exploring in-depth the ways in which the audience performs roles based on their cognitive, psychological, and physical participation.

Song Jihyun, meanwhile, reinterprets ceramics in a contemporary language. Song’s work is characterized by a sincere and original sculptural
language and narrative based on an in-depth exploration of materials and materials.
