On September 5, ‘FUTURA SEOUL,’ a new large-scale exhibition space (around 1,157m2), will open in Bukchon, Seoul. FUTURA SEOUL will present a new artistic experience based on the rich history of Bukchon, which was once the living space of the noble families in the Joseon dynasty.
The three-story building was designed by internationally recognized WGNB’s CEO and designer Baek Jong-hwan, who won many of the world's leading design awards. The building as a whole is a modern interpretation of the traditional atmosphere of a hanok, and the first and second floors, which are the main exhibition spaces, are designed to create a sense of grandeur with a structure that blends in with nature and 10.8-meter-high ceilings.
The opening exhibition will be "Echoes of the Earth: Living Archive," the first solo exhibition in Asia by media artist Refik Anadol, who garnered attention last year at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York for his large-scale media works utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).
In this opening exhibition, the artist will present a multi-sensory installation using ‘The Large Nature Model (LNM),’ an open-source generative artificial intelligence model developed based on data from nature. More details will be added to FUTURA SEOUL's official website and Instagram at a later date.
