The
gallery, FIM, which opened this August with a mission to discover and showcase talented
young artists, is presenting a two-person exhibition, “Silent Noise,” featuring
works by Melody Park and Sujin Lee, until November 30.
As
FIM’s second curated exhibition, “Silent Noise” brings together the contrasting
yet harmonious paintings of Melody Park and Sujin Lee.
Melody
Park focuses on the diverse expressions of color influenced by thickness,
viscosity, texture, and density. Using materials of varying particle sizes,
such as pigment powders, paste paints, and drawing stones, she explores and
expresses her unique approach to color.
In
this exhibition, she focuses on the auditory environment of her studio as a key
element in her work. In the midst of various noises that fill her studio—such
as airplanes, delivery trucks, and the sounds of birds and insects—she
visualizes the direction and movement of these sounds, expressing invisible
dynamic energy and the rhythm of color.
Meanwhile,
Sujin Lee works on describing and naming the negative emotions she encounters
in reality in her works. She faces anxiety and fear, which have roots in her
personal experiences and intensified during the pandemic, in an uncertain and
unpredictable reality by choosing images that evoke similar emotions in movies (in
genres such as thriller, mystery, and horror) and preserving such emotions on
the canvas.
Ji Yeon Lee has been working as an editor for the media art and culture channel AliceOn since 2021 and worked as an exhibition coordinator at samuso (now Space for Contemporary Art) from 2021 to 2023.
