Artist Won Seong Won meticulously collages hundreds of directly captured or collected photographic images to recreate fantastical visuals. With each piece, the artist infuses their unique imagination into the lives of contemporaries, providing a new narrative. The current exhibition at Jeju Arario Museum Topdong Cinema offers a series-based presentation from Won’s early works to recent pieces, allowing viewers to observe how the artist’s creative world has evolved.
Born in 1972, Won Seong Won graduated from the Department of Sculpture at Chung-Ang University and pursued studies at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in Germany and the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both domestically and internationally, including the Seoul National University Museum of Art (Seoul, 2021), the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Seoul, 2020), Podbielsky Contemporary (Berlin, 2014), the Houston Museum of Fine Arts (Houston, 2009), and Alternative Space Loop (Seoul, 2008). Won Sungwon’s works are housed in esteemed art institutions worldwide, such as the Mori Art Museum in Japan, the Museum Haus Esters and Kunstaus Lehmbruck in Germany, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art in the United States.
