Under the theme of “Night,” Museum Hanmi presents “Endless Journey to Black Night,” a special exhibition featuring works from the museum’s main collection. The exhibition is on view at Museum Hanmi Samcheong until August 25, featuring more than 100 works by 32 artists.
The exhibition is composed of works from the museum’s collection as well as private and institutional loans. The works range from classics from the early 1900s to contemporary Korean and international artists that the museum has collected over the past 20 years. The photographs include the epitome of American pictorialism and modernist photography, the dissipation of the European avant-garde and New Vision movements, and the experimental photography of the Korean post-war period, as well as contemporary photography from Korea and abroad.
The exhibition presents the landscapes beyond consciousness that photographers have captured with their cameras over the past century as ‘narratives of the night’, organized into four subthemes. The subthemes are: 1) Nocturama, 2) Details of the Unconscious, 3) Dream-Works: Compression and Dislocation, and 4) Night Swallowed by Darkness.
