Frieze Seoul 2024 will not only
feature a fair showcasing globally acclaimed artworks but also present the most
extensive and diverse Frieze Week to date, featuring a variety of programs
including cultural events in collaboration with galleries and nonprofit
organizations.
To start, one of the key events
taking place within the COEX, Frieze Seoul venue, is the inaugural Frieze
Live performance program, which will run throughout the fair. Director
Patrick Lee mentioned that following the performance by ikkibawiKrrr, held as
part of the 'PST' program in collaboration with Getty at last year's Frieze
Seoul, they decided to fully integrate a performance program with Frieze Seoul starting
this year.
Additionally,
the commissioned work by Choi Goen, the recipient of this year's second Frieze Seoul Artist Award, will
be unveiled at COEX during the fair. Choi's new piece treats the exhibition
space as a temporary, large-scale technological medium, highlighting the
ever-evolving relationship between art, technology, and urban landscapes.
From September 5-7, COEX Studio 159 will host the Frieze
Talk series. Co-hosted by Frieze Seoul, Kiaf SEOUL, and the Korea Arts
Management Service, the program will cover topics such as the power of
biennials, feminism in Asian art and the evolving role of curators in
galleries.

In addition to the art fair in
COEX, collaborations with a variety of non-profit organizations, including Frieze
Film and Frieze Music, will take place throughout Seoul. Frieze Film
will take place at Ewha Womans University's outdoor garden from September 2-6
and will be available online at Frieze.com.
And to coincide with Frieze
Week, the art fair week, several major institutions will have exhibitions
running concurrently, and you can look forward to Frieze Nights. A
central part of this programme will see late-night openings in three of Seoul’s
most important gallery districts:
Hannam Night on Tuesday September
3
Samcheong Night on Wednesday
September 4
Cheongdam Night on Thursday
September 5
A dedicated online Frieze Viewing Room opens
in the week before the fair, offering audiences a first look at the
presentations and the ability to engage with the fair remotely.
