The Seoul Museum of Art will host an
international seminar, “Photo SeMA
Spotlight 1: A Place for Photography”, in advance of the opening of the
Photography Seoul Museum of Art (Photo SeMA; 70, Madeul-ro 13-gil, Dobong-gu,
Seoul, in the first half of 2025). The seminar, which will take place on
September 3 at the Buk-Seoul Museum of Art, will commemorate the establishment
of Photo SeMA, Korea’s first public photography museum, and also serve as a
place to share the visions of international photography institutions in Europe
and Asia, along with their programs for contemporary photographers.
Speakers include Gwen Lee, the
Director and Co-founder of the Singapore International Photography Festival
(SIPF) and DECK Photography Art Centre, which is set to open in a new space in
2026; Felix Hoffmann, who runs Austria’s largest photography biennale and is
the Artistic Director of FOTO ARSENAL WIEN, which is set to reopen in 2026;
RongRong&inri, Co-founders of Three Shadows Photography Art Centre, China’s
prominent independent contemporary photography institution, and co-hosts
Jimei×Arles International Photo Festival; Peter Baki, Director of the Hungarian
Museum of Photography; and Jung Hee Han, Director of the Photo SeMA.
In addition, the architects Mladen
Jadric (Jadric Architektur ZT GmbH) and Yoon Geun-ju (1990uao), who designed
the space of the Photo SeMA, will explain the entire construction process of
the museum, which was developed through their collaboration from the design
competition in 2019 to the present.
The seminar is open to the public by
reservation. Participants can apply for the seminar by 5 p.m. on Friday, August
