The
National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) presents a special
exhibition “What Things Dream About”, on view through September 18, at MMCA
Seoul.
In line
with the posthumanism trend that emerged in the second half of the 20th
century, the exhibition focuses on non-humans, especially objects. The
exhibition looks at objects not as tools of humans, but as beings that
co-create the world, and proposes an alternative scenario in which objects and
humans create together.
The
exhibition presents more than 60 works by 15 domestic and international artists
and designers (teams) under three subthemes: 'World of Objects', 'Invisible
Relations', and 'What Kind of Future'. Consisting of installations, sculptures,
videos, and photographs, the exhibition tells various stories about objects,
ranging from research projects on matter and materials to the history and
biology of specific objects.
In the
public space connected to the exit of the exhibition hall, interviews with the
artists of the new works, books on philosophy and literature related to the
exhibition's theme, and a catalog of international artists are provided to help
visitors understand the exhibition. Meanwhile, the exhibition publication will
include critiques, essays, conversations, and research findings by experts on
speculative art and design, social philosophy and design discourse, and more.
