A global contemporary gallery, Gagosian, will mount its first exhibition in South Korea, timed to this year’s edition of Frieze Seoul at Amorepacific headquarters.
Gagosian will present a solo show “Derrick Adams: The Strip” by New York–based artist Derrick Adams at the APMA Cabinet, a ground-level project space in the headquarters of Amorepacific, from September 3, 2024, to October 21, 2024. For this exhibition in Korea, Derrick Adams will present new paintings inspired by his Brooklyn studio neighborhood and the window displays of beauty stores around the world.
Last year, to strengthen its presence in the Asian art market, Gagosian appointed Jiyoung Lee, who has 15 years of experience as a gallerist in both Western and Korea, including at Sprüth Magers, Esther Schipper, and PKM Gallery to head of operations in South Korea.
Nick Simunovic, senior director at Gagosian, commented, “We are thrilled to be hosting our inaugural exhibition in Seoul, which builds upon last year’s appointment of Jiyoung Lee to lead the gallery’s operations in Korea. It’s a tremendous honor for Gagosian to be the first gallery to program this extraordinary space at Amorepacific’s headquarters.”
