Artist Ilkwon Yoon’s solo
exhibition "A Grasp at the Air" is being held until December 1 at
OUTHOUSE, an exhibition space located in Mangwon-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. OUTHOUSE
was established in 2018 by artist Anbuh, who transformed part of a shared
studio into a multidisciplinary art space by adding a partition wall. Since
then, it has introduced works by emerging artists who offer fresh perspectives.
In "A Grasp at the
Air," Ilkwon Yoon (b. 1990) brings forth his practice, which is rooted in
printmaking techniques and extends across various media such as installation,
sculpture, video, and photography. He first reinterprets parts of memories or
recollections through photographs, and then, using his own unique techniques
that go beyond traditional printmaking methods, he creates a secondary
representation that aligns with the themes he contemplates.
In this solo exhibition, he presents
hyper-photographic and hyper-printmaking three-dimensional works that cannot be
categorized as traditional photography or printmaking. These works are
'body-entry albums,' where viewers can physically move and engage with them.
Along with these, the artist introduces 'architectural prints' made from
materials such as silicone and tiles. These works, which have transformed into
spatial forms themselves, preserve the intangible nature of memories as visual
art.
On Saturday, November 23, at
3 pm, a participatory performance event titled "The Air Share Fair"
will be held in connection with the exhibition. More details about the event
schedule and specifics can be found on OUTHOUSE's website and Instagram.
