Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art is
presenting “2024 New Rising Artist: Byproduct,” an exhibition that introduces
young artists working in Jeju's art scene, through October 27.
“New Rising Artist” is a biennial
exhibition that introduces young artists in Jeju who are establishing their own
worlds through challenging experiments and aesthetic exploration. Now in its
third year, “New Rising Artist” introduces the works of Kang Suhee, who paints
fragments of everyday life after arriving in Jeju; Koo Jiun, who reinterprets
traditional shrine figures in a modern way; Kim Seungmin, who captures
narratives of disaster in his paintings; Yea Woonhae, who collects discarded
objects from everyday life and reconstructs them into artworks; and Ham
Hyunyoung, who expresses condensed emotions through cloth and needlework.

These five artists sincerely record the moments of everyday life and inner cracks that we inevitably encounter as our lives continue, and delicately unfold their perceptions of reality.
