Residency Changdong, operated by the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, is pleased to present The Shining Things, an exhibition of the first half of the 2023 Changdong Residency, on view through June 11. This exhibition introduces seven artists from five countries who have been in residence for the first half of 2023 as part of the 21st Changdong Residency and showcases their work produced during the residency.

Oksun Kim(b. 1967), Jongheon Bae(b. 1969), Yuri Lee(b. 1973), Paul Geelen(b. 1983), Christian Danielewitz(b. 1978), Omar Mismar(b. 1986), and Nicolás Gullotta(b. 1983) will participate in the exhibition, which will feature more than 30 works in various genres including installation, photography, and painting. What sparkled in front of the artists’ eyes during the moments they spent in the unfamiliar space of Changdong, forming a community for some time, influencing each other, and exchanging information?

This exhibition chases after flashes that are too dazzling to stare at for long, flashes that pass in an instant, and after mages that remain even when the eyes are closed. You can see the fragments of the artist’s gaze in the exhibition, which is the artist’s view of the moment that passed unnoticed by others.

Changdong Residency was established to support Korean artists over the age of 40 who are active in the domestic cultural scene, enhance their capabilities through exhibitions, open studios, artist collaborations, and art talks, and internationalize Korean contemporary art by activating their creative environment. To expand its international exchange network, Changdong Residency also operates Mondrian Fund Fellowship Program, Danish Arts Foundation Fellowship Program, and International General Residency Program (artist/researcher).
