Museumhead presents its first exhibition of 2024, “Artificial Tears,” on view through April 13.
Featuring eight artists – Moongi Gim, Park Sejin, Yang Jihoon, Yoon Hiju, Lee Moka, Choi Yoonhee, TZUOO, and Huh Suyon – “Artificial Tears” reflects on today’s images that mediate loss and grief. How do images carry the weight of time and the pain of loss today, when death is displayed in real time and individuals are exposed?
The exhibition asks whether contemporary imagery, accustomed to intensity and volatility, has forgotten the power of thought, and recalls art’s long-standing attitude of preserving traces of the past and the other. The exhibition observes how the eight artists deal with their own losses and pasts, and asks whether it is possible to play with images that affirm irreversible separation, project the otherness of today’s survival, and refuse to homogenize the events of grief into the here and now.
