Amado Art Space presents a group exhibition
"Paint It Black" through August 2. Taking its title from the Rolling
Stones' 1966 song of the same name, "Paint It Black" is dedicated to
the theme of death.
The exhibition uses the October 29 Itaewon
disaster as a triggering premise for its depiction of the contemporary
landscape surrounding death. However, while it is a starting point, the purpose
of the exhibition does not lie in the details of the tragedy.
Rather, it focuses on the particular
circumstances in which the controlled mourning that followed the tragedy, which
was hastily declared, tainted mourning and solidarity. The exhibition asks us
to look at the forms of disgust and avoidance that 'rightfully' follow death
and mourning today, rather than shunning or avoiding them.
These images probe the void of loss,
reminding us that it is only when we, who are not yet dead, blacken the absence
of the dead with mourning that we can make them live forever.
The exhibition will feature artists GuNa,
KIM JUWON, FlagSideKick(Seung Eui Seok, Soomin Lee, Joo Hanbyul), Seungju Lee,
Gayoung Im, and Im Jaehyoung.
