Information & Services HubThe ASEAN-Korea Centre is organizing a
special exhibition “Southeast Asia’s Green Legacy” at the ASEAN Pavilion of the 15th
Gwangju Biennale until 1 December at the Asian Culture Center. The exhibition
will provide an opportunity to experience the ecological diversity of the 10
ASEAN Member States under the theme of 'ASEAN’s Forests' and 'Plants'.
The ASEAN-Korea Centre, founded in 2009, is
an international organization dedicated to promoting economic and
socio-cultural cooperation between the 10 ASEAN member states and Korea through
a variety of projects for the past 15 years. The Centre introduced the culture
and tourism elements of the 10 ASEAN member states through programs such as
cultural events, exhibitions, and performances to enhance the understanding and
affinity of Koreans toward the ASEAN region.
The Southeast Asian region accounts for
only 3% of the world’s landmass, but it is home to 18% of the world’s fauna and
flora. The region hosts four of the thirty-six biodiversity hotspots known as
the “web of life,” and three of the world’s megadiverse countries. This
exhibition was planned to examine the ecology of ASEAN plants and their
relationship with humans under the theme of biodiversity and coexistence.
In the exhibition, ASEAN’s unique plant
species are installed in accordance with their ecological habits, transporting
visitors to the heart of the ASEAN forest. This exhibition will cover a variety
of topics through photography, installation works, and video by Mingyes
Project, Padosikmul, and Seohyo.
