From October 6 to 28, Efremidis Seoul will present Statues Also Fall in Love, a solo exhibition by Aura Rosenberg (b.1949).
Aura Rosenberg interrogates the power of images within social contexts such as sexuality, gender, and family. Rosenberg works in a variety of media, including photography, video, performance, painting, and sculpture, with photography taking center stage.
This exhibition presents 13 works that utilize a lenticular lens, which allows the viewer to see different images depending on the angle of view. The artist photographs statues in Rome, Florence, and New York, then transforms them into digital pornographic images found on the internet. In the transformation process, the lenticular lens’s effect is utilized to combine classical and contemporary nudes in one place. Rosenberg’s works question the boundaries between eroticism, taboo, and art.
