My Ghost Part II, a solo exhibition by artist Jaeheon Lee (b. 1976), will be held at Gallery SP from October 4 to 28. My Ghost is divided into two parts. While the first part, which ran from August 30 to September 27, showcased a comprehensive selection of artist’s works, the second part focuses on the ‘Idol’ series and presents 66 portraits.
Lee focuses on the portraits and also the relationship between figures and landscapes. He uses the technique of painting and erasing to obscure the relationship between forms and landscapes. This technique is also applied to portraits, which feature faces that are superimposed and erased so that their identities cannot be determined. These portraits reflect the artist’s concerns about the nature of anxiety and the invisible world.
This exhibition will present portraits from the ‘Idol’ series. ‘Idol’ is a series of works that the artist has been working on since 2015, modeled after idols and people around him. The faces of the figures are blurred and unrealistic, and in contrast, their clothes are more clearly outlined and colored. This relationship between face and cloth can be seen as an extension of his interest in the relationship between figure and landscape.
