Haekang Lee (b. 1989) employs various techniques, from graffiti to animation, to create abstract paintings. Particularly, he expresses the creative rebellion emerging from street culture through painting, conveying the energy and spirit of street culture through elements such as stroke speed and intensity. In his exhibition, DxD, the artist showcases works where he photographed and digitally drew 651 sculptures created by his father that remain in Dokkebi Park on Jeju Island. The exhibition title, DxD (Dokkebi x Dokkebi), was chosen to signify the motif derived from the park’s dokkebi (Korean goblin).
Haekang Lee seeks to combine street culture and painting by fusing spray paint and oil painting. Using the animation technique known as ‘morphing,’ which signifies the organic combination of two forms, he maintains the characteristics of street art and oil painting while creating new forms. Lee majored in Digital Media Design at Hongik University and has held solo exhibitions at venues such as Space Willing and Dealing (Seoul, 2021), Platform L (Seoul, 2020), Noblesse Collection (Seoul, 2020), and Gallery2 (Seoul, 2019).
