The 2024
Busan Biennale, titled "Seeing in the Dark," which opened on August
17, runs until October 20 across 4 venues, including the Busan Museum of
Contemporary Art, Busan Modern & Contemporary History Museum, HANSUNG1918,
and Choryang House.
Among
the venues of the Busan Biennale, Choryang House —a historic residential space
in Choryang that preserves the lifestyle of the modern era—offers a glimpse
into the daily life, culture, and identity of old downtown Busan. The
exhibition at Choryang House integrates six artists' (or teams') works with
architectural elements such as gardens, balconies, and rooftops, providing a
unique viewing experience.

This
exhibition features 44 works, including installations, videos, and drawings by Shuruq
Harb with Federica Bueti, Ubermorgen, Kim Jipyeong, Shooshie Sulaiman & I
Wayan Darmadi, Sriwhana Spong, and Eugene Jung. Notably, Ubermorgen presents
their commissioned piece for the 2024 Busan Biennale, titled The
Silver Singularity (2024), an installation that explores the
entanglement of time through silver objects, grey spaces, and green plants.
Another
highlight is Eugene Jung’s work Fortune Earth (2022),
which vividly portrays the onset of disaster through a shattered globe
symbolizing the antithesis of utopia.
